GATHERING PLACE:
The image of a single child and of the world enveloped and sheltered by mankind speak of our need, as social beings, to be together and care for one another. Dwellings of various styles and size provide protective shelter and a gathering place. The grand piano symbolizes joyful times shared in the homes with family or friends. Music and the sound of birds singing seem to extend a warm welcome. The large heart represents love, joy, and forgiveness.
The receptacle in the lower centre awaits business cards or a favourite photo, while the grand piano opens to hold a personal treasure.
Other items in this assemblage — such as a piece of Mammoth tusk, tree roots, a spool of thread, an old clay pot, and rusted nails – reflect the fact that part of the artist’s sense of well-being is rooted in little keepsakes.
